Before and After

I have just updated my Before and After page, but I thought I would post it as an entry as well.

I grew up in rural Ontario. The oldest of three. I was active and although I never had a weight problem I remember being “concerned” with body image from a early age.

I remember going on my first diet at age 11. Why I have no idea, but I ate cottage cheese and raw veggie for lunch for most of grade 6. In grade 7 I became a vegetarian. This lasted until my senior year in high school.

Once I went away to college I started to pack on the weight. I had never been “fat” so I actually didn’t get how large and unhealthy I had gotten.

These are the two pictures that made me realise that I was out of control. I couldn’t believe what I saw. I saw a couple pounds shy of 200 pounds!

It was a LONG transition. It took years, and lots of trial and error. I had to educate my self on what is actually a healthy lifestyle. I started running…..very slow at first. I will never forget the first time I ran 5k without stopping! I couldn’t believe I did it.

Years later I still struggle to stay on track and focused. I love the healthy lifestyle and what running does for every part of me, mind, body and soul. But I am human. I “mess up”, go “off track”. But what’s makes me different then before is that I get back up and dust myself off and carry on! Always trying to be better then yesterday!

High Park 10K

Sometimes I still feel like that 200 pound girl. Hell sometimes I still see her when I look in the mirror. But, just like a lot of other women, we never feel “good enough”. We as women need to be proud of our accomplishments and hard work. Especially when you know how far you have come. I need to stop looking in the rear view mirror at what used to be and look ahead……at what is to come. I am hoping this new blog will keep me focused in this new direction.


Quiet Saturday Night = Early Sunday Morning

Yesterday was a rest day. Felt good after Fridays 10 Miles but still decided to give myself a day off. Last night I was craving Pad Thai, but wasn’t willing to splurge on the calories. Decided to make a salad for us that would maybe remind me enough of Pad Thai without being terrible for us.Salad

  • Bed of Baby Spinach
  • Bean Sprouts
  • Grilled Chicken

Warm Dressing

  • Chicken Broth (no salt added)
  • Tamari
  • PB2
  • Garlic
  • Saracha

Cook down until the Peanut Sauce thickens, pour over salad and toss. It did the trick for a fraction of the calories!

In bed by 930 last night…..jeez somebody should have an intervention….I am out of control!

Ahhh….Early Sunday Morning! How I love Sundays! (Well when I am not working at the zoo anyways)  Here I sit….Blogging and Drinking Coffee! Its a great day!

Don’t be jealous…..You too can have this look just by wearing no make up and NOT brushing your hair for a couple days!

Totally put my gym clothes on at 7 am even though I have ZERO intention of stepping foot out of this house anytime in the A.M.! It is Sunday after all!

Today is a 5 Mile sprint run on the Treadmill

When 13 Miles turns into 10 Miles!


I am so sick of the treadmill……Just thinking about doing more then 5 miles triggers my gag reflux….I am constantly whining to KFG(That’s what we will call my best friend Kelly for convenience sake…mmm..k!) about this hate for the treadmill. So why I just heard about the free indoor track 5 minutes from her house JUST NOW is beyond me! (This info would have been particularly useful the summer I was marathon training and running in 40C weather and throwing up from heat stroke and being chased by violent birds…….just sayin!)

Friday morning I picked KFG up and we headed to the track. I was hoping we would do 13 Miles but time wise I knew it wasn’t happening before we even started. I still felt good about 10 Miles and set that as a goal. The track was quite nice, very easy running surface, although the track goes around a hockey rink so its a bit cool.

IndoorTrack_600pxIt was really busy. Lots of walkers mostly. The track is 7.5 laps on the outside track to equal 1 Mile…..sigh….only 75 laps to make up the 10 Miles! I didn’t tell KFG how many laps as I think she would have told me to shove it!

All in all I would say the run went well. We averaged about 5 min 35 sec KM (9 min Miles). It was a nice slow pace run, it would have been harder to go much faster as the track was quite busy and we would have ended up snowplowing women and children off the track (this would probably be frowned upon).

IMG_2539IMG_2537My old school Garmin never lets me down! I just can’t seam to let it go and get a newer model. Once the run was done we went off to the side of the track to do some push ups.


People always think we are a bit weird taking pictures of odd things……I always want to yell out “I am not a weirdo narcissist I am just a blogger!) I think I may have that printed on the back of all my running shirts.

IMG_2553My push ups are improving. I really need to get this 10 lbs of winter weight off. Definitely feeling a bit soft.

IMG_2557IMG_2558All in all it was a good run. If I didn’t have to rush home to get to work for 3pm I know we could have pumped out the last 3 Miles . We both felt pretty good at the end of the run, so I have no doubt we will do a 13 Miles soon.



I know I know…….So dramatic!

Any excuse to carb load!

I had a brilliant idea the other day! I decided to run 13 miles on Friday ! And just for the fun of it I brought my best friend in on the plan….. Why run 13 miles for no reason? Just so I can have a treat this weekend !! 

So today I have done an unnecessary amount of carb loading! ( I know I don’t need to load for 13 miles I am just pretending that’s why I’ve ate my body weight in carbs already today!)
