So before I start here, just a side note…….When you are chatting with your Mother on the phone (Who just came back from Mexico yesterday) and she asks you if you’ve ever had Brazilian……clarify what she means before answering! How was I supposed to know she meant a Brazilian Steakhouse a la carte restaurant at their resort??
I really was hoping it would warm up enough to get outside for a run but no luck…..brrrr…… Screw that!
I powered up for my run with 1/2 a grapefruit that I sprinkled with stevia and cinnamon and then broiled in the oven…..tastes so much better this way then cold.
I also has some of the C4 pre workout. Just needed that extra kick today!

I also did a .5 Mile warm up and a .5 Mile cool down (This picture is just of the interval run). My goal is to get up to 6 Miles in under 50 Minutes. Almost there.
Yikes ……It is definitely a hair washing day!
I am so so excited…..Big Brother Canada 3 starts tonight!!!!!!!! I wish I had tried out like I wanted to! Every year I always say I am going to the casting but never do……ugh…
Shane and I are heading to my our friends place to watch.
My good friend Julie invited us (Shane and I) out for her partners Birthday at a local pub. Adult bevies, some munchies and lots of laughs!
Shane was definitely having a good night!
I am so happy that they moved close to us! I am not from this area so it is great to have such good friends so close! Monday morning I will definitely be hitting the pavement to burn off that wine! I am hoping to get in a 15 km run if the weather cooperates!
I finally got the balls nerve to go outside for a run. I HATE the cold!! It was great to be off that darn treadmill!
Things I always forget while running on the treadmill all winter
I am not as fast as the treadmill makes me think I am
I hate hills
I hate wind
I did 6km. I wasn’t wanting to go to far, as this is my 5th day in a row. I am just happy I was able to get outside and run.
The first 3 km were great! Music was flowing, I was floating along. Until I turned a corner for the uphill portion of the run and got sucker punched in the face by the wind. I felt like a Jack Russell with my head out the car window!
Truthfully it is such a great feeling. The fresh air, the sun shining. I really do love running and am glad I have made it a part of my life! Now that I have a bench mark for my actual running condition….I know what I need to work on.(Hills and endurance) before these races I have scheduled.
I made my first thing in the ninja. A delicious smoothie bowl. The actual smoothie bowl was Coconut Almond Milk, Xanthium Gum, Organic Cocoa (From our Dominican Vacation) Spinach, Ice, Protein Powder, Greek Yogurt and PB2. But it was the Toppings that were the real star of the show! Dried Cherries, Granola, Toasted Shaved Coconut, Macha Power, Chia, Hemp, Flax and Cocoa Nibs……I could eat this EVERY DAY. It was a great pre workout meal and definitely made me sail through my 10 k run with tons of energy! These Buckwheat Soba noodles were the inspiration for supper. I love soba noodles. I just kinda threw in a bunch of my favorite things…..including, Onions, Garlic, Ginger, Bamboo Shoots, Curry Power and Some Curry Paste, Coconut Milk, Chicken and Tofu and came up with……… This Bowl of AMAZING….Topped it with Green Onions and a squeeze of Lime……..
Yesterday was a nice day off! After running on the hamster wheel treadmill for 4 miles, we headed to Costco. My blender decided to go kaput on me the other day and I can’t live without one. Of course I would LOVE to get a vitamix but I don’t really want to spend $500-$700 on a blender. I have a few friends who have the Ninja and say it works great. I looked all over trying to find the 1500 watt/2.5 horsepower one but apparently Canadian’s don’t need blenders that strong and the American web sites all refused to ship it to me!! I ended up getting the blender / food processor. I took it home, washed it all up……..Excited to get it all put together and use it…..Then the damn thing cut me!! SOBAt least I know its sharp! After I cut myself it was bleeding like crazy…….so I did what any normal person would do…..After it FINALLY stopped bleeding, I krazy glued that sucker shut….Good idea!……Right????…..I work the next three days in a row….7-7.
I hope everyone made it through St Patrick’s Day ok and that no one woke up to ashamed of their selves! ……Although I used to love drinking at the pub, starting at noon, dressed in tacky dollar store green beads, hats and what not……I stayed home this year!
Nothing like waking up in a ditch with a green beer moustache and a short chubby guy that last night was able to convince you he was a Leprechaun! (Again not judging!)
I worked Monday and Tuesday at the zoo 7-7. Long days. But I was able car pool wit KFG which always makes my drive go faster! And we were able to work out on our lunch break both days! We did interval training both days.I usually use the work gym after work as I usually work 6-6 so it isn’t as busy as it is mid-day but we still managed. I set the treadmill to 7.0-8.0 miles and 10.0 incline the first day and did 1 minute sprints in between super sets. It was a back and shoulder day on Monday.Tuesday was intervals again but I kept a flat incline and did 2 minute sprints ranging from 8.5-9.5 mph in between super sets Tuesday was bicep and chest day.
Being a shift worker has it’s advantages as I am off today and tomorrow, but on the down side I work all weekend! Friday -Sunday 7-7….yuck!
Speed run today, aiming for 4 miles. Tomorrow will be the long slow run day.
I have just updated my Before and After page, but I thought I would post it as an entry as well.
I grew up in rural Ontario. The oldest of three. I was active and although I never had a weight problem I remember being “concerned” with body image from a early age.
I remember going on my first diet at age 11. Why I have no idea, but I ate cottage cheese and raw veggie for lunch for most of grade 6. In grade 7 I became a vegetarian. This lasted until my senior year in high school.
Once I went away to college I started to pack on the weight. I had never been “fat” so I actually didn’t get how large and unhealthy I had gotten.
These are the two pictures that made me realise that I was out of control. I couldn’t believe what I saw. I saw a couple pounds shy of 200 pounds!
It was a LONG transition. It took years, and lots of trial and error. I had to educate my self on what is actually a healthy lifestyle. I started running…..very slow at first. I will never forget the first time I ran 5k without stopping! I couldn’t believe I did it.
Years later I still struggle to stay on track and focused. I love the healthy lifestyle and what running does for every part of me, mind, body and soul. But I am human. I “mess up”, go “off track”. But what’s makes me different then before is that I get back up and dust myself off and carry on! Always trying to be better then yesterday!
Sometimes I still feel like that 200 pound girl. Hell sometimes I still see her when I look in the mirror. But, just like a lot of other women, we never feel “good enough”. We as women need to be proud of our accomplishments and hard work. Especially when you know how far you have come. I need to stop looking in the rear view mirror at what used to be and look ahead……at what is to come. I am hoping this new blog will keep me focused in this new direction.
Yesterday was a rest day. Felt good after Fridays 10 Miles but still decided to give myself a day off. Last night I was craving Pad Thai, but wasn’t willing to splurge on the calories. Decided to make a salad for us that would maybe remind me enough of Pad Thai without being terrible for us.Salad
Bed of Baby Spinach
Chicken Broth (no salt added)
Cook down until the Peanut Sauce thickens, pour over salad and toss. It did the trick for a fraction of the calories!
In bed by 930 last night…..jeez somebody should have an intervention….I am out of control!
Ahhh….Early Sunday Morning! How I love Sundays! (Well when I am not working at the zoo anyways) Here I sit….Blogging and Drinking Coffee! Its a great day!
Totally put my gym clothes on at 7 am even though I have ZERO intention of stepping foot out of this house anytime in the A.M.! It is Sunday after all!
Today is a 5 Mile sprint run on the Treadmill
Is it warm out yet? Gotta love these Canadian Winters! sigh……….
I am so sick of the treadmill……Just thinking about doing more then 5 miles triggers my gag reflux….I am constantly whining to KFG(That’s what we will call my best friend Kelly for convenience sake…mmm..k!) about this hate for the treadmill. So why I just heard about the free indoor track 5 minutes from her house JUST NOW is beyond me! (This info would have been particularly useful the summer I was marathon training and running in 40C weather and throwing up from heat stroke and being chased by violent birds…….just sayin!)
Friday morning I picked KFG up and we headed to the track. I was hoping we would do 13 Miles but time wise I knew it wasn’t happening before we even started. I still felt good about 10 Miles and set that as a goal. The track was quite nice, very easy running surface, although the track goes around a hockey rink so its a bit cool.
It was really busy. Lots of walkers mostly. The track is 7.5 laps on the outside track to equal 1 Mile…..sigh….only 75 laps to make up the 10 Miles! I didn’t tell KFG how many laps as I think she would have told me to shove it!
All in all I would say the run went well. We averaged about 5 min 35 sec KM (9 min Miles). It was a nice slow pace run, it would have been harder to go much faster as the track was quite busy and we would have ended up snowplowing women and children off the track (this would probably be frowned upon).
My old school Garmin never lets me down! I just can’t seam to let it go and get a newer model. Once the run was done we went off to the side of the track to do some push ups.
People always think we are a bit weird taking pictures of odd things……I always want to yell out “I am not a weirdo narcissist I am just a blogger!) I think I may have that printed on the back of all my running shirts.
My push ups are improving. I really need to get this 10 lbs of winter weight off. Definitely feeling a bit soft.
All in all it was a good run. If I didn’t have to rush home to get to work for 3pm I know we could have pumped out the last 3 Miles . We both felt pretty good at the end of the run, so I have no doubt we will do a 13 Miles soon.
I had a brilliant idea the other day! I decided to run 13 miles on Friday ! And just for the fun of it I brought my best friend in on the plan….. Why run 13 miles for no reason? Just so I can have a treat this weekend !!
So today I have done an unnecessary amount of carb loading! ( I know I don’t need to load for 13 miles I am just pretending that’s why I’ve ate my body weight in carbs already today!)
Don’t worry…… I’ll be sure to post a obnoxiously long post about the 13 miles, Complete with 57 selfies….. For your viewing pleasure of course!
